Yeah, you read that right. So, how does that actually work? Well, before you go stuffing your face at the nearest buffet, let’s clarify something. It said; eat more times a day, but it didn’t say to eat more food a day.
Here’s the premise: Eating smaller meals, more times a day, is far better that eating two or three large meals a day. Why, you ask? Well here’s why…
The Problem
When you only eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner, you usually have between 4-5 hours between each meal. This can cause you to feel hungry at your next meal and may cause you to over eat because, well… you’re hungry.
Now all that food you ate is likely much more than your body needed, and that which you do not use gets stored away as fat. And if you spend most of your day sitting down, your body will not use that food as energy. So, the next time you have a big lunch and go right back to your desk job, you’ll know where your meal will be going. Just something to keep in mind.
The Solution
Eat 3 smaller meals a day with a planned snack in between each meal every 2 hours. Breakfast is the only meal where you can keep it relatively heavy. Especially if you start to develop a morning exercise routine. This translates into about six to eight “meals” a day.
The Break-down
After your breakfast, eat a healthy snack roughly two hours later. Since you plan this snack-time, you are less likely to snack on something unhealthy. Avoid the vending machines and bring something from home. After another two hours, you can have a sensible lunch. You shouldn’t really be hungry at this point which means you shouldn’t over-eat.
About another  two hours after your lunch, you can have another healthy snack. If you work out in the evenings, a protein shake would be a good fit here. It fills you up but doesn’t weigh you down. And about two hours later you can enjoy another sensible meal for dinner.
If you go to bed late enough, you can even throw in a late night snack, which should be pretty low carb-and low fat. Something very light that won’t upset your stomach and won’t get stored as fat. It’s best to avoid this altogether, but we’re all human.
The Challenge
Try this out and see how much better you will feel. Try it long enough, and see how much better you’ll look as well. You’ll never feel low on energy and you’ll never feel lazy from over-eating. Unless you just stuff yourself at every one of these meals. Of course you wouldn’t do something like that.
After you try this, leave a comment and share how it worked out for you.
